About Jon Marc
Excerpt adapted from Pearl River County Living - Summer 2025 Issue
Jon Marc Burge's story begins where few others do born not just in Mississippi, but in Poplarville itself, in the small town's hospital, a rarity even among locals. After spending a decade away, he returned three years ago, carrying with him more than just memories; he brought back a lifetime of experiences that would ultimately reignite the creative fire he once thought had burned out for good.
Raised in a family deeply rooted in gospel music, particularly on his mother's side, Burge was surrounded by the sounds of harmony and praise from an early age.
His musical journey formally began in church, where he started singing in the youth choir and ensemble groups during middle school. Although his ability was apparent even as a child, it wasn't until around the age of 13 that he developed a genuine passion for music. That passion deepened in high school when he picked up a guitar and eventually found his voice as a songwriter. By the time he was in college, the pieces had begun to come together vocals, guitar, songwriting and he started traveling to lead worship at youth camps and church retreats. For a long time, nearly all of his musical endeavors were tied to the church, with only occassional restaurant or bar gigs breaking the mold.
